Event: The Royal Show
Date: 23 May 2008 to 01 June 2008
Basics: Exhibition show for Agriculture, Commerce and Industry. It is the largest show incorporating Agriculture, Commerce and Industry on the continent of Africa and is well worth the visit. It includes a large public exhibition of the countries finest livestock, a 2100sqm food hall where by way of demonstrations and exhibitions shows how food gets from the farm to your table. Also included is the recently refurbished crafts and home industries hall. Here you can find incredible displays of talent including woodwork, paintings, needlework, tapestries, photography and much, much more. The greatest thing is that this Exhibition caters for almost every taste and talent, everything from exhibitions on pools to local delicacies and much, much more. Found adjacent to the city of Pietermaritzburg. Hire a car and get not only the show but all that Kwazulu Natal is able offer.
Event: The Sardine Run
Date: 01st June 2008 to 31st July 2008
Basics: This one’s for those fishing enthusiasts. See the annual migration of millions of sardines accompanied by thousands of dolphins, sharks and seabirds which follow this amazing body of sardines. Want to see other wildlife then you can also follow the thousands of tourists who flock to these shores and who knows maybe indulge in a bit of a holiday romance.
Event: The Comrades marathon
Date: 15th of June 2008
Basics: The world’s greatest ultra marathon. This is one of those marathons where the spirit of man can truly be appreciated. A gruelling 90km run between Durban and Pietermaritzburg. This race attracts thousand of enthusiasts a year with its comradeship, competition and its ability to make you see whether you can surpass your ultimate limits. The comrade’s marathon alternates every year between an up run from Durban or a Down run from Pietermaritzburg. For those who don’t enjoy the gruelling torture of such a run, come and support those who want to put there bodies to the ultimate test.
Event: The MTN Durban fashion week.

Basics: This is one of those special weeks for those who like to follow the trend. The MTN Durban Fashion week is now in its 3rd year and is fast becoming a major international event. It has established itself as an international platform for top SA designers to show of their ultimate creations and also has the reputation of been the cradle for South Africa’s new and emerging talent. This year’s expo will be run from Sun Coast Casino and entertainment world Durban. It will highlight top local designers such as Gideon and Lindiwe Kuzwayo as well as Couturiers from all over South Africa who have their roots in Durban such as Gavin Rajah, Malcolm Kluk and many more. Their will also be an exclusive designer expo running parallel with Fashion Week for those players of the fashion industry as well as exciting shows by those young and upcoming designers.
Event: Mr Price pro
Date: 29th of June 2008 to 05th of July 2008
Basics: The Mr Price Pro is one of the world’s longest running surfing competitions and will be running from its new location at New Pier. Formerly known as the Gunson 500 the competition has moved several times in its day but with the new location and its awesome top quality waves. The Mr price Pro is sure to knock out your wind as you watch the top surfers from Durban and all over the world compete for this prestigious prize. The 6 star event runs over 10 days and boast a total prize purse of US$125 00 (+/- R1,750,000-00) and 3000 valuable WQS points. With the current conditions at New Pier competitors could be offered reeling high performance walls with throaty barrels.
Event: The Sibaya Yearling sale
Date: 04th of July 2008 to 5th of July 2008 and the 10th of July 2008
Basics: this incredible annual sale of up to 200 year old pedigree horses is a sight to behold. Part of the venues car park is converted into stables for a week and the horses are sold of to the highest bidders. Last years sales broke all records reaching R17.879 million rand and increase of 46% over the previous years and the highest price paid was for Silvano sired Figurine going for an incredible R400 000 to Maine Chance Farms. The Venue is situated at the Imbizo Room at Sibaya Casino and entertainment world.
Event: The Amanzimtoti Sardine Splash
Date: 05th of July 2008 to 8th of July 2008
Basics: Come and enjoy the party at this years Amanzimtoti Sardine Splash. There’s a bit of fun for everyone with the “Miss Sardine Splash”, Beach Sports, Shark Dissection on the beach, music, beach market and even a sardine braai on the beach. So pretty girls, fishing and other luxuries, what more could a fisherman want and it’s perfect for the whole family too.

Basics: Ah the Durban July, Glitz, Glamour, good food and an incredible atmosphere of growing excitement. The Durban July is held annually at Grayville racetrack and the most amazing thing about this race is the fashion, where people from all backgrounds come and show of their best, from the weird and wonderful to the sophisticated and elegant. So come and try your luck and see if you can earn a extra bit of money or come show us your weirs but whatever your tastes come and enjoy the atmosphere at this prestigious event.
Event: The Midlands Meander festival.
Date: 07th July 2008 to 22nd of July 2008
Basics: What more could someone want, the arts in the most serene and beautiful surrounds. For 21 years now, artists and fine crafters on the midland route have inspired those that visit the KZN midlands with their diverse and unique creativity. The festival promises to be a celebration of creativity in all its forms as it endeavours to invite experts in the fields of craft, writing, drama and culinary arts to share their expertise with the broader public. Visitors are encouraged to explore the unique environments of the KZN Midlands and the diverse attractions and characters that make up the route. So hire a 4*4 or any other conventional vehicle and come and explore the beauty and diversity that the KZN Midlands have to offer.
Event: Durban International Boat and Leisure show
Date: 11th to the 13th of July
Basics: Whether you like the open seas or just paddling around the pond in a dinghy, the Durban international boat and leisure show is there to blow your senses. Visitors can experience a multitude of boating experiences from a one man canoe to a luxuries island hoping cruise. 2 sectors of the show is covered under 1 entrance fee: R30 for adults and R20 for pensioners and youngsters, under 12’s get in for free as long as they’re accompanied by an adult. This show doesn’t only include boats though; also on show are 4*4, Luxury tow cars and much, much more. There is even a deep see angling competition called the Mallards Marine Game fish Challenge where different deep sea anglers compete for incredible prizes totalling R300, 000.
Event: Chemspec Durban Airshow.
Date: 14th to the 16th of July
Basics: Running at the Virginia airport from 10am till 4pm, this show is a must see. You get everything from Pit Specials to Mirages and with their subsonic booming, your ears will be left ringing and your eyes will be left watering. The event also has a lot for the whole family. So pick up your car and fly with the planes.
Event: The Uprising festival
Date: 28th of July
Basics: This is one for all the South African music lovers out there. Started back in 2000 with only 4 bands and 1 stage, it has now grown to 16 bands with 2 stages and over 1300 followers. You can expect comedy, Mayhem and chaos as part of the fun while Durban’s best jam it out with the best of South Africa.
Event: Hluhluwe Rhino Classic
Date: 29th of July
Basics: Here’s one for those adrenalin and fitness junkies. This is the 3rd race of the Zini River big 5 mountain bike series and starts at the Hluhluwe Hotel at 9:00am. You have three different races. The 1st one is a 10km fun ride which the whole family can do. The 2nd one is a 25km ride with lots of highlights and a bit more gruelling. The last one is the gruelling one, a 50km ride which will pass through game reserves, hilltops, bushy single track ravines and amazing technical sections. Being 250km out of Durban, why not hire a comfortable car from us and make the journey there a pleasure so that you can start the race out, relaxed and ready.
Event: BMW International Polo series
Date: 29th of July to the 5th of August 2008
Basics: Now for the equestrian and sports lovers. The BMW International Polo classic is traditionally played between July and August with the 1st test, always on a Sunday, to be played at Shongweni and the 2nd test, also a Sunday, played a week later at the Inanda club in Sandton, Johannesburg. BMW has been the sponsor of the international series for the last 16 years and has set up a development program to allow previously disadvantaged players to compete at top level. BMW is also responsible for helping with the growth of the sport in the country. The fantastic news is that South Africa will be playing against the Argentinean’s who are one of the world’s most formidable teams. Basics: This is a showcase and celebration of the vital impact woman make on South African Lives. This year’s festival includes cutting edge productions of poetry, music, comedy and drama showcasing the talents of noted woman in South Africa.

Basics: This is a must see in Durban as it is the ultimate marketing, promotions and special events exhibition. It offers a complete and dynamic platform of leading suppliers for the market. This year will be the 2nd year that the show will run and if we go by last year, this year’s show should be a booming success.

Basics: This show has been running for the last 9 years and has shown itself to be a complete success. The Nedbank Eastern bridal fair is presented in association with Lotus FM, Eastern Mosaic and SABC2. Exhibitors include jewellers, beauticians, decorators, Fashion stores, Mehendi Artists, Hairstylists, florists, caterers and much, much more. Event: Mont-Aux-Sources challenge
Date: 13th of Sep 2008
Basics: A 50km solo trail run that takes place on the 13th of September 2008. It starts at the Royal Natal park entrance and ends at the Ukhahlamba-Drakensburg World heritage site. The race has a limited field of 350 with a waiting list, so booking early is advisable. It has been run for the last 16 years and was voted best running race for 2006 and 2007.
Event: Ithala Escarpment Challenge

Basics: A 35km run which starts at 7am from the Ntshondwe main camp Ithala in Louwsberg.
Event: Mont-Aux-Sources challenge
Date: 13th of Sep 2008
Basics: At this festival you can expect Acoustic music and more, which will be performed by well established and up and coming artists. The 3 day event has camping, caravan and chalet facilities so staying somewhere shouldn’t be a problem. On top of the music you have a beer market which sells naturally brewed ales, lagers, droughts and fruit beers, arts and Crafts and outdoor activities. Come and hire a nice single or double cab from us with 2 man or 4 man sleeping facilities.

Basics: One of the oldest classic cycling races in South Africa; it follows the general route that the comrade’s marathon does. Starting at Pietermaritzburg city hall and finishing at the Suncoast Casino.

Basics: Pick and Pay proudly introduces 2 Mountain bike races into the Amashova Bike race. Asishove means pedal like hell and really follows its name. You can ride the 45km and 20km Mountain Bike event on Saturday and then if you’re up to it why not ride the 106km or 40km Family fun run on Sunday.

Basics: The 1st of its kind for Kwazulu-Natal, the Nottingham road Pink Festival promises to be a thing of extravagance featuring music, theatre, dance and magical meandering. Produced by the Nottingham road tourism and information centre and in association with Very Very Big Productions visitors are sure to experience an enchanted 3days of sensory pleasure.

Basics: The shows run for 2 hour sessions and features events from all over the world. To be held at the Pavilion Nu Metro cinema.
Event: Sani Stagger Endurance Race.

Basics: This annual event is run along the Sani Pass in the Southern Drakensburg and is known as the Ultimate endurance race. You have a choice of doing the 21km half marathon and 42km full marathon.

Basics: A beautiful concert held in the Durban Botanical Gardens in association with the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra. Ticket sales open about 2 weeks before the concert.
