Once you have a pivotal point for your holiday, you can plan around it. What would be the use of arriving in a city, and having to look for accommodation? Besides being frustrated by not being able to get through, language barriers, and higher prices because of late bookings, it would simply not be a smart move to arrive in an unknown place with no-where to stay.
When choosing accommodation, look out for:
Location – be close to where you want to be
Tourism grading – choose a place that is rated, so that you know that you are getting something that has been checked
Extra’s – do you get breakfast included, can you use the internet for free…

Transport
This is very important in South Africa. Unless you are intending to stay at one place throughout your entire holiday, plan how you are going to get around!
South Africa’s roads are very good, and you do not need a 4×4 to get around unless you are specifically going off-road. We do not have an extensive commuter train system, so do not count on that! Local busses do run, but not as reliable as the European or American busses. Long distance busses are good, but go with a well known company. To hire a car is generally the best way for people to get around.
