What is it about money that makes people loose their heads? An offer comes in that says, “We’ll pay you $10000 a month for doing absolutely nothing. Just pay a minimum joining fee of $240.50 to start with this fantastic offer.” If you think about it, this sounds absolutely ridiculous and you can’t understand how somebody will fall for that but there are people out there that cannot resist such an offer and will do anything to find out how to make their lives a little easier.
Nowdays the world is alive with different ways of conning people out of their hard earned cash or valuable services with the schemers doing very little work themselves. Look at the Pyramid scheme which is an absolute classic. This is a business venture where the main idea is you enroll somebody for a set amount of money without offering a service or a product and with just a promise that they can make more money. The only way that person can make money is to enroll somebody else for a set fee which you get a commission of. This will keep building until the person who started the scheme is rolling in the money and people in the middle and bottom just keep loosing money. There are many scams out there to extort money from people and here are a few of my favorites.
The advanced fee fraud, where a target will invest relative small amounts of money in something, there is always a promise attached of larger remunerations later on with a little bit of fake evidence to make it more believable.
The retail fraud called bait and switch. This occurs when a retail company will advertise a product at ridiculously low prices and then when the customer comes to purchase the product the company would claim that the product is out of stock but will offer another similar product with an obviously raised price.
False advertising such as introductory offers. Here the advert will say one thing such as “try us out at a minimal fee but what the consumer won’t realize is that after a period of time the fees will change drastically and often the consumer will end up paying up to 3 times more for a product than if they went to the suppliers competition.
Identity theft is the method of obtaining goods, money or services by pretending to be somebody else. People would usually do this by using fake Id documents and passports.
Ever called your doctor a quack, well that is an insult as quackery is a fraud type by which a person gives health services while claiming to be a Dr or medical professional without actually having the necessary skills, qualification and knowledge to provide these services.
Lastly there is security fraud where investors will invest money in something based on false information being supplied to them. It is also termed stock fraud or investment fraud.
So next time that easy way out opportunity comes up and you’re sorely pressed to take it, stop for a minute and think about it. You might just be the target for somebody’s fraud scheme.
