Driving to freedom: go find your bit of heaven

Peace, at harmony with nature, spectacular natural colors jumping out at you around every corner, sounds like a dream. This little peace of heaven is readily available to those living in the big overbuilt cosmopolitan areas; you only have to know where to look. Who of you are always complaining about the hustle And bustle of the city and of those who always complain how many of you actually look at alternatives so that you can take a break from it all? My guess would be that most of you complain about it but do not actually do something about it.

There is often so much beauty within and around a city if only you took some time to find it.  Take Jo’burg a polluted city with heaps of aggressive people and not much beauty but go just outside the city and you will find beautiful farmlands, reserves and many other things of wonder. Inside the city you can find the Jo’burg zoo which was one of the most relaxing times I had ever spent in the city. Like canoeing then why not go to places like Zoo Lake, Germiston Lake and even Boksburg Lake for a nice quiet relaxing time and having a nice braai (barbeque), with a few beers,  while catching some carp, barbell or other fresh water fish can be just about the most relaxing thing you can do in a city.

Cape Town, now this is a city abounds with beauty everywhere you go, fantastic coast line, rugged hikes up the mountain, wine routes, fruit picking and so much more. From the quaint little towns that circle the mountain routes to the excitement of the night life, Cape Town is definitely what they had in mind when they though up cities in paradise. There are so many things to do that they may just be too numerous to mention. Watch the whales as they breach in Hermanus and Blaauwberg. Take part in the delicacies at the different wine routes and by this we don’t only mean the wine, try some of the farm stall products such as cheeses, olive products, different speciality dishes, restaurants and so forth. The fresh fish is amazing and when you visit places like Houtbaai then go to the wharfs and see what specialities you can reel in.

Here is a city nobody ever mentions but is definitely not one to miss. Ever though you would be able to see Springbok, Giraffes and wild life roaming free in the heart of the city, well it is definitely possible here at the Franklin Reserve which is set on Naval Hill.

You also have beautiful peaceful parks, botanical garden and entertainment abound.

If you’re looking for open roads why not climb into your car and drive. South Africa has a lot of open road with enough petrol stations which have restaurants, toilets and shops to keep any worry away.

So next time you feel like complaining about the hustle and bustle of the city then look into some of these beautiful spots in the city and relax take it easy and enjoy the exquisite beauty that cities have to offer..
