Choosing the type of vehicle that you would like to hire will affect the pricing and total cost of the rental cost. When you choose, you are choosing a vehicle group, and not a specific vehicle. This group of vehicle will have the same or similar characteristics. The main characteristics for car rental in South Africa would be whether or not the vehicle has air-conditioning and/or power-steering. Other factors include the size of the vehicle and whether it is an automatic or manual gear-shift. Most vehicles in South Africa are manual, otherwise known as stick-shift.

When you generate a quote from the site, you will be offered a variety of vehicles which are listed below. You can select to see all of the vehicles, and then check off the necessary features that you require reducing the options within the search

Economy – Nice run around car for you and another person. This is the most basic of the vehicle groups. If you need air-conditioning and power-steering, this may not be the group for you

Compact – Nifty cars with air-conditioning and power-steering, generally a hatchback vehicle. Great comfortable vehicle for 4 people with a little bit of luggage

Intermediate – This is similar to the compact version, but would be a sedan. This vehicle class carries the same amount of people with more luggage than the compact rental vehicles. Both manual and automatic available options are available.

Full – This has extra power in terms of engine and more comfortable for longer trips. These vehicles have all the trimmings you want, and more. Mostly automatic

Estate – Taking lots of luggage and family? This is going to give you plenty of comfort and space.

People carrier – Are you going on a trip with your family and cousins and uncles and aunts? These vehicles take up to 8 people in comfort

Premium – For a luxurious drive, lots of power and a bit of a show-off. The premium class vehicles are very comfortable, but do come at a higher price.

Automatic – Several vehicle groups offer an automatic. In South Africa, these will be more expensive than the manual vehicles, but if you are used to driving an auto, it is worth upgrading.

Budget (van) – These are bigger than the standard vehicle, and smaller than the people carrier. These are great for 5 or 6 people, or for 4 with lots of luggage and golf clubs.

Air-conditioned – South Africa gets hot, and you are on holiday. We definitely suggest an air-con for your rental vehicle.
