Trevor... NOT for president
Pretoria - Finance Minister Trevor Manuel does not want to be president - and that is official.
His privacy and lifestyle did not allow it, said Manuel in an interview in the latest edition of Insig magazine, now on the shelves.
Manuel, who expressed opinions on matters such as brown identity and Springbok rugby, told how he was sitting in a restaurant with his three sons last year when Jacob Zuma was dismissed as deputy president.
"My youngest son told me the children at his school said it might be my turn to be deputy now.
Sniffer dogs go in first
"I told him we were sitting in the restaurant now and it was okay, but if that happened to me we couldn't do this any more.
"And he said: 'Well, if they offer it to you, maybe you shouldn't take it.' "
The finance minister said that he thought one would have to forfeit too much personal freedom if one was president or deputy president - a game of golf or shopping would be out of the question, because dogs always had to be sent in beforehand, for security reasons.
