Missing boy, 6, found safe

Mossel Bay - A six-year-old boy suspected to have gone missing in the sea, was found wandering in the Outeniqua area after an extensive air sea and land search, the National Sea Rescue Institute said on Sunday.

The Mossel Bay NSRI were called to assist the police at 16:00 to search for the missing boy from Wellington who was thought to have gone missing at Dwarsbergstrand between Glentana and Groot Brakrivier, said station commander Dawie Zwiegelaar.

The boy and his nine-year-old brother had been playing and swimming on the beach since 09:00. At about 14:30 the older boy went for a swim and upon returning to shore his brother was missing.

"After searching for his brother without success the older brother returned to where his family were hoping his brother had returned there too but he was still missing," said Zwiegelaar.

Police and the NSRI launched the land, air and sea search.

40 minutes into the search police found the boy wandering in the Outeniqua area after he had apparently become lost. The child was not injured and was returned safely to his family.
