E-mail hoax case postponed

Pretoria - The case against an IT consultant accused of withholding information about hoax e-mails mentioning senior ANC officials was postponed in the Pretoria magistrate's court on Thursday.

Muziwendoda Kunene is accused of contravening sections of the Intelligence Services Oversight Act by not providing information on the matter to the inspector-general of intelligence.

Chief prosecutor Matric Luphondo said the State in agreement with defence have decided to postpone the case until April 6 for both parties to "discuss the status of the case".

Magistrate Chris Chokoe set down April 6 as a provisional date for Kunene's next appearance.

Kunene was arrested in December for allegedly distributing hoax e-mails that implicated senior African National Congress leaders in a conspiracy against former deputy president Jacob Zuma and ANC secretary-general Kgalema Motlanthe.

Kunene was subsequently released on R2 000 bail and disappeared in January for two weeks, after which he handed himself over to police,

He remains out on warning.
